Senator Hillary Clinton has again grabbed national headlines by announcing her intention to enter the 2008 presidential race. The simple words “I’m in” were added to her website late today announcing her intentions to become a presidential candidate. A statement was released later which stated that she was “in to win” and announcing that a committee had been formed to deal with the fund raising aspects of the campaign.
The former First Lady and Senator are considered the premier candidate in what has become a rather large Democratic field. Should Senator Clinton succeed in her bid she would become the first female President in the history of the United States of America and also the first presidential spouse to enter office.
Clinton’s announcement places her amongst a diverse field of candidates many with comparable experience and public appeal.
In a statement released Saturday, Obama said: "Senator Clinton is a good friend and a colleague whom I greatly respect. I welcome her and all the candidates, not as competitors, but as allies in the work of getting our country back on track."
Leading democrats have supported the senator’s move as one that will unify the party and move the party to an election footing. Although there is some concern that her candidacy may be overshadowed by husbands and former president’s history whilst in office. In fact it has been suggested that Senator Clinton is the most eminently leading primary contenders but the most unelectable candidate.
